Happy 9th Anniversary, UEL Taekwondo Club!

Major throwback to December 2015 where a number of UEL Current and Alumni students agreed to form a committee thus completing Team DJB Taekwondo as a local community engagement project, becoming a non-profit community group.

The members have had experience in committee positions within the UEL Taekwondo Club and with this new venture they hope to further develop Taekwondo as a grassroot sport within the local community increasing participation in the martial art and develop the future generation of Taekwondo coaches.

Fast forward to today, 30th January 2018, marks UEL Taekwondo Club's 9th Anniversary.

That's right! The UEL Taekwondo Club is 9 years old! Established since 30th January 2009.

Here are 9 amazing facts about the club and what makes it successful over the years:

1. It is one of the longest running sport club at University of East London. 2. Master Shujahat Fiaz has been coaching for the last five years, making him the longest serving coach at UEL. There were two coaches before him- Master Bae being one of them.

3. One of the founding members is still training at the Club and regularly assists when classes are large in number. He is also one of the Team DJB coaches teaching on Saturdays. (More on him in another blog entry- watch this space!)

4. Back in 2016, the UEL Taekwondo Club was considered the most sustainable club out of 24 sport clubs at UEL Sports.

5. The Club is the only UEL sport club to have external members (about 21%). These are made up of

UEL alumni members who previously served as committee members and have supported the development of the club.

6. Currently, 4 Club Presidents are training at UEL Taekwondo. (3 Former and 1 Current)

7. It won Club of the Year award for 2013-14. The first non-BUCS sport club to do so at UEL.*

8. Master Shujahat Fiaz won Coach of the Year in the same year after serving his first full year coaching at UEL Taekwondo.*

9. Previously, two former Club Presidents have won Service to Sport- one in 2013/14 and the most recent in 2016/17. They are still currently training at the club.*
